Tonight I indulged myself with a movie for myself. I watched Julie & Julia. It was a perfect movie for me because it talks about food and self evaluation and well....blogging. This is something I desire to do often yet I don't set aside time to do so. So thank you Julie & Julia for inspiring me to blog this time of year. I really missed it!!!

Being so close to the end of the year, I felt it would be a great time to go over my new years resolutions. I haven't even looked back at them in probably 4 or 5 months so I have no idea where I stand. You will be finding out right along side me!!

1. I set out to do Piliate's 2 times a week. Well officially, I believe I accomplished doing pilates maybe 2 times the entire year! Great Job Cristy!!

2. Go the month of January with no treats or soda. well I did cut down immensely but I still love my treats!

3. Lose the 20 lbs I've gained in the last year and a half. I am very proud of myself for this one because I did lose 15 lbs of it. I have a few extra lbs but its nothing I can't still reach...if I really could give up my treats....which I probably won't!

4. Study and understand the Doctrine and Covenants. I do feel like I better understand D&C. some of the sections I went through were one's that I didn't ever remember reading before. And I know I've read all of them several times. though, not surprisingly, I feel I still have so much more to learn!!!

5. At this point, I am not able to run on a regular basis but I miss running so much. My goal is to run just 1 race this year. Yay for this one!! I did 3 5K races and another ragnar relay race in Las Vegas. All this was accomplished even though I sprained my ankle and was out of running commission for 2 months this summer. And I plan to run more this upcoming year!

6. I would like to finish reading Preach My Gospel. I have learned so much from the sections I've read. I just want to finish it. and I haven't finished reading it but I did start reading to my girls out of it to prepare gabriella to get baptized in May. I do love this book!

7. To read 9 more fiction novels this year. And another goal accomplished. I managed to read exactly 9 fiction books this year. I read all 4 of the vampire academy books, 3 in the Night World series, Dairy Queen, The Off Season, and I believe Esther by Eleanor Liggens was the last. I really enjoyed reading this year. My vampire horizons are forever broadened. hehe.

8. Learn 5 more songs in the children's songbook. I definitely learned 5 new songs this year in primary. It helped that I was made the nursery chorister because then I really had to learn the songs. plus, a couple I learned in teaching senior primary. I LOVE PRIMARY SONGS!!

9. Learn more than just how to play the melody on the piano and learn the basic chords on the guitar. well I have definitely learned a lot on the piano but not so much on the guitar. line upon line I guess. but I am loving learning more on the piano.

10. Learn how to keep my house generally clean. Ok so I did get really good at that this year....until I moved. then it went back down hill. I have utilized the flylady.net website and I am striving to get back there. We'll see if next year will be any better. A little at a time right. I just love making goals and look forward to later this week making my new ones for next year!!

I really am proud of my accomplishments this year since it has been a rough year. With being a single mom, there was a part of me that felt so stretched that I didn't want to keep going with all my goals. But now, I am so glad for all that I have done. And I am looking forward to a new, wonderful year!!!

I was looking for a backpack that is also a Camelback and that is large enough that I could carry a good amount of items that I would need taking my 4 children with me on 3-4 hr hikes. This backpack is lightweight so I barely notice its there and big enough to carry everything I need. Lots of pockets, durable, and extreme comfort fit. It's probably not big enough to go overnight camping but great for all day hikes.

Last week at the girls' school was spirit week and they had a blast. Here are a few pictures from their crazy hair day and 80's day. I have to admit, it was as much fun for me as it was for them to put their outfits together. I just have to figure out this new program for making collages. This isn't too bad of a start! =)

My Missionary Daughter!!

So I just had to share this amazing story. Lexie is a rock in my life. She has always had a strong testimony of the gospel. She has never been afraid to share her testimony with her friends and I wanted to share this story with you.

In October, she became friends with a sweet girl named Myah. and since then, they have had many sleep overs and fun times together. Myah's family was just starting to come back to church when we met them and Lexie decided to help Myah in understanding the gospel and the joy it would bring by inviting Myah to church activities.

One of my very favorites was a Temple open house they went to in February and also to Activity Days. I really feel like Lexie planted seeds in Myah's heart and I'm so proud of both of them for the choices they made.

Update on my New Year Resolutions!

I tell myself that I haven't blogged because I've been working so hard on my new years resolutions...well not so much the case but I have been busy. Though I have been working on my resolutions. So I am posting them so I can feel proud of my accomplishments thus far.

1. Pilate's 20 min, 3 times a week. Definitely not. But I am happy to say I have been going to the gym 3-4 times a week and I've started a 1/2 marathon training schedule. Not sure I'll actually get to run one. But I figured what the hay, I might as well try for it and feel good and prepared if the opportunity arises. Last weeks total mileage...6.5 miles. No not all in one shot but I'm still happy with my accomplishments.

2. january of no sweets and treats! BAHAHAHAHA! Wow, I did terrible on this one. But I am happy to say I've cut about 800-900 calories a day out of my diet and a lot of that is contributed to sugar. So its not completely cut out but I am super proud of the self control that's taken me 3 long months to find.

3. lost 20 lbs. I've lost 3 so far but this is week 8 of going to the gym regularly and I only really lost weight for the first time in the last week and I am extremely happy about that!

4. Study and know the Doctrine and Covenants. Wow, this one has been so much fun. It's been a number of years since I've really studied this section but I am loving it. It's like reading a new book for the first time. So much I don't remember. I'm really greatful for this challenge I've given myself.

5. Run 1 race this year. ok, so I'm training for it but that race hasn't found me yet. But it will!!!
I wish I were running with my new wonderful friend Haylee for her first 1/2 marathon she's doing in August but since I will be living in Virginia and she in Utah, that's not going to work so well.

6. Finish reading Preach My Gospel. So that's one I really need to start working on. I am going to come up with another Family Home Evening schedule to prepare Gabriella for baptism. I loved doing that with Lexie and am looking forward to doing the same for Gabs.

7. Read 9 fiction books that I've not previously read. I can say I've read 2 books so far. Dairy Queen and The Off Season. I am still trying to read through Eat, Pray, Love but its a slow read. But I will reach my goal!

8. Learn 5 new Primary songs. Not doing so great at learning new songs. I don't know what it is but I am having the darndest =) time retaining songs. I'm not giving up though!!!

9. Learn more than the melody on piano and more chords on the guitar. I have finished teaching myself all of book 1 in beginning piano!!! Yay I am so proud of myself for this one. I have just barely started book 2 but I feel like I've learned so much already but I know there is still so much for to learn. As for the guitar, I have practiced what I've already learned but haven't learned new chords. My step dad is awesome on the guitar and when I was in WA he helped me with reading music for the guitar. He's a great teacher!

10. Learn to keep my house generally clean. Ok, I'm not perfect at this one but I think I've had the most fun developing this skill. Flylady.net has been my new friend!! My first introduction was from my friend Mary Thorley and its taken me a couple of years to finally get into it. So thank you Mary!! I feel like a new woman and it feels so good to clean my bathtub, toilet, and sinks everyday!!! I love the smell of a clean house in the morning!! Now if only I could get my laundry always up to par! Someday Cristy, Someday!!! =)

New Year's Resolutions

I loved my friend April's idea of writing my new year's resolutions down here. Until now I had them written on an untitled document on my computer, not yet even saved. =) guess I hadn't made up my mind on how well I would keep them? So now I've made up my mind and here they are...

1. Do my 20 minute Pilate's video 2 times a week. It's a realistic goal and since my hubby and sister are gone, I don't really have alone time anymore so this is achievable.

2. Go the month of January with no treats or soda. Now this is a hard one for me but I am starting with month 1 and progressing from there. Plus, this will help with goal #3.

3. Lose the 20 lbs I've gained in the last year and a half. Not sure how it happened but not really liking it. I'm a stress eater and so I guess it could have been the moving, Daniel being gone, and being in my 30's ( I hear that really makes it hard).

4. Study and understand the Doctrine and Covenants. (It helps that its the study section for this year but I really want to know the sections better)

5. At this point, I am not able to run on a regular basis but I miss running so much. My goal is to run just 1 race this year. Even a 5k would be nice. I miss that feel of running in and finishing a race.

6. I would like to finish reading Preach My Gospel. I have learned so much from the sections I've read. I just want to finish it.

7. To read 9 more fiction novels this year. I've come to really love reading fiction. I already know 2 of the books. And have a few others I know I want to read. The whole collection of Jane Austin would be fun. But every year, my love for reading grows and it's been a goal of mine for the last 5 years to find that love of reading. I think I finally may have found it!!! Last year I think I read 7 books and I would like to beat that record (and it is a record for me).

8. Learn 5 more songs in the children's songbook. There are so many songs I don't know and would like to someday not sit in primary and 'wish I knew that song when every other teacher is singing it'!

9. Learn more than just how to play the melody on the piano and learn the basic chords on the guitar.

10. Learn how to keep my house generally clean while Daniel is gone and get my children to help me more. They have to be so much more independent when he's gone in order for us to make it. But a house of order is very important to me. I always feel better when my house is clean!!!

Alright, so there are my 10 goals. All pretty attainable. Nothing so far fetched that they can't all be accomplished. Much of these things are a part of my life already but I would just like to step it up a notch, be more organized so that they can be fully accomplished. When I write it down, I get it done! It's one of my better qualities so now I have to get it done!
